What is SOAR?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are disability income benefits administers by the Social Security Administration for eligible children and adults. Sadly, the application process is complicated and difficult for someone to navigate without help.

Nationally, 29% of adults who apply for benefits are approved on an initial application and the appeal process can take 1.5 years!

For people who are homeless or at-risk or returning to the community from an institution (jails, prisons, or hospitals), access to these programs can be extremely challenging. Approval on initial application for people who are vulnerable and at risk without assistance is only 10 to 15%! For those with a serious mental illness, substance abuse issue, or co-occurring disorders the process can seem impossible yet these benefits are often a critical first step to recovery.

We are part of the solution!

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) developed the SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) model to address this issues. We have SOAR-trained case managers who can submit complete, quality application that are approved quickly. By maximizing income supports through benefits and employment, at risk individuals are having better results in obtaining stable, permanent housing.

The 2018 approval rate on initial SOAR applications  averaged 65% in 100 days! Watch the video below for more information and then connect with a SOAR Case Manager.
